Beating HCV: An Open Forum on Opportunities & Challenges for Treating Hepatitis C

October 26, 2015 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

October 26, 2015 | 1:00PM – 4:00PM | New Orleans, LA

The Center for Health Law & Policy Innovation (CHLPI) of Harvard Law School, in collaboration with NO/AIDS Task Force dba CrescentCare, is Beating HCV: An Open Forum on Opportunities and Challenges for Treating Hepatitis C in Louisiana on October 26, 2015.

HCV is currently taking a dramatic toll on the health of Louisiana’s residents. Each year roughly 5,000-6,000 Louisianans are diagnosed with chronic HCV, and over 120 die from the disease.  While new research has led to the development of treatments that can effectively cure HCV, Louisiana still faces significant challenges in its battle to turn the tide on this disease. At Beating HCV: An Open Forum participants will examine the impact of HCV in Louisiana and engage in a candid discussion regarding the current opportunities and challenges to expanding access to HCV prevention, screening, and treatment.

The forum will feature a panel of experts, including:

  • Robert Greenwald, J.D., Clinical Professor of Law, Director, Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation, Harvard Law School
  • Dielda Robertson, Epidemiologist Specialist and Hepatitis Coordinator at the Louisiana Office of Public Health
  • Medical providers specializing in HCV treatment
  • Community advocates

Following a series of brief presentations, all participants will be invited to engage in an open discussion, facilitated by the program organizers.
